Learn how to make a dreamy super thick and cozy knit blanket out of wool roving with this photo tutorial. The best part is, you do not need to know how to knit! I show you a technique where all the stitches are laid out on a flat surface and you use your hands to make the stitches.
The pattern also shows you:
• How to graft ends together by needle felting
• How to care for the wool, and use felting to prevent it from fuzzing too much
• How to source additional wool roving
• How to make your own giant needles out of PVC pipe (if you know how to knit with needles)
The pattern comes as a PDF file, which should become available to download as soon as your payment clears. This is not the actual knit blanket! If you are interested in purchasing a finished knit item, please go to this listing.
Size: The finished blanket is approximately 30x50 inches in diameter, although there is a LOT of variation depending on the size of your stitches. If you'd like a different size blanket, you can always use this technique with a different amount of yarn.
Difficulty: Easy. If you use my "table knitting" method, you do not need to have any knitting experience. If you want to use giant knitting needles (40 mm or larger), you will need to know how to knit and purl.
Cost: Pure wool roving is usually around $115 for 4 pounds/2 kg with the shipping, but you may be able to get a bulk discount or substitute a more affordable acrylic version. The pattern contains information on how to source high quality wool (or you can purchase a kit here).
